Abstract

The university, Escuela Politécnica Nacional, is a recognized university in Ecuador for its ability to generate science and technology, which is consistent with the national objectives of migrating towards a knowledge economy. However, the creation of knowledge is an incomplete process if it is not transmitted to their peers or serves as a contribution to a society problem. The objective of the research was to understand the state of the transfer of technology from the National Polytechnic School to the sector of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Quito, to close the cycle, strengthening the contribution of universities to society. The chosen methodology was a mixed, quantitative and qualitative approach. The results of this research allowed to know the state of the technological transfer from the National Polytechnic School to the food sector of SMEs in Quito. The evidence demonstrates the collaboration requirements of SMEs with universities, the fragile relationship between both sectors, and the need to strengthen trust, as a fundamental factor in future collaborative processes.
