Abstract
The Sustainability, Energy, and Cities address critical challenges facing the world in environmental and energy matters, as well as their impact on intermediate cities in Ecuador. Sustainability is highlighted as an imperative for ensuring a prosperous and equitable future, recognizing the inherent connection between sustainability and the economy. We emphasize the urgent need to transition towards clean and renewable energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, which presents opportunities for economic growth through sustainable investments. Moreover, we underscore the significance of sustainable urban planning in addressing environmental issues in cities, promoting the development of green economic sectors and sustainable job creation. Education for sustainability is deemed fundamental in fostering environmental awareness and proactive attitudes in society, influencing responsible economic decision-making. Additionally, we highlight the role of technology as a powerful tool to drive sustainability, leading to innovation and economic competitiveness. In conclusion, this edition underscores the importance of collaboration among governments, businesses, organizations, and citizens in building a sustainable future, where sustainability and the economy are closely intertwined, promoting sustainable and prosperous development for future generations. It is crucial to act and work together now to ensure a more prosperous, equitable, and environmentally sustainable world.
