Abstract
Most of the world's population lives in urban areas, which is why their development must be framed in terms of sustainability. In this sense, the Universidad Tecnológica Indoamérica organized the 1st Congress on Sustainability, Energy and City. With the objective of promoting the sustainability of intermediate cities in the short, medium and long term. This academic meeting was attended by experts in sustainability, urbanism, energy and industry who formed an international scientific committee that was responsible for evaluating the submission processes of researchers from different parts of the world. The main result of this process is a special edition of the journal CienciAmérica with research that contributes to the topics of sustainability, energy and the city. In addition, this multidisciplinary group of researchers made it possible to transfer knowledge between academic institutions, propose research, and analyze how intermediate cities are likely to change and adapt in the coming months and years in a sustainable manner. Finally, some discussions on the management of resources in cities emerged from this congress that will serve to promote the improvement of minimum infrastructure and service conditions in terms of sustainability. Thus, cities and their regional environment are facing new social and environmental challenges that are inextricably linked to the economy.
