Abstract
INTRODUCTION. In this work, problems are detected in some protection functions used in a power plant of generators. OBJECTIVE. To model the GPC which is one of the devices that functions as protection and control of the engine. METHOD. Using the mathematical modeling of a typical power plant and its main protection device, the protection functions that did not operate effectively are detected. RESULTS. Some protection functions within the GPC were not effective and this was the cause of the severe damage that the power plants were suffering. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. Some protection functions in the GPC are not effective, it is better to use a protection relay for these plants.
