Institutional considerations on Mental Health in university students during the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract
INTRODUCTION. In terms of mental health, university students are considered a vulnerable population. In the face of the events experienced due to the pandemic by COVID-19 and the measures established by governments to deal with this situation, the mental health of university students is threatened. Within the framework of social responsibility, universities could be appropriate places to explicitly and implicitly address the health and well-being needs of students. OBJECTIVE. Provide some institutional considerations on mental health in university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD. This work corresponds to a documentary design. Studies on mental health in university students are reported and reflections are made on the possible contributions of universities from the Social Responsibility framework. CONCLUSION. The studies found report increases in symptoms of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, suicidal ideation and sleep problems. The actions that universities can take to benefit the mental health of their students during and post-pandemic could prevent the psychological effects of COVID-19 and benefit the development of society.
