Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

CienciAmérica allows the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools solely as technical support in research and manuscript preparation, provided that transparency, scientific integrity, and human responsibility are guaranteed. 

 

Mandatory Declaration  

Authors must explicitly disclose any use of AI in: 

  • Writing, editing, or translating text.
  • Data analysis, processing, or visualization.
  • Generation or modification of tables, figures, images, or graphics.

The declaration must include: 

  • Name of the tool used.
  • Purpose of use.
  • Scope of its application in the study.

This information must be included in the Methodology section or in the AI Use Declaration section. 

 

Authorship and Responsibility

AI may not be listed as an author or co-author. 

Authorship corresponds exclusively to individuals who meet international academic criteria. 

Authors are responsible for: 

  • The accuracy, originality, and scientific validity of the content.
  • Verify all information generated with AI support.
  • Avoid bias, fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, or nonexistent citations.

 

Data and Image Integrity 

The use of AI is not permitted to: 

  • Alter or fabricate data.
  • Manipulate images or results in a misleading manner.

Any image or content generated with AI must faithfully represent the findings and be properly disclosed. 

 

Prohibited Use 

The following will be considered editorial misconduct: 

  • Submitting AI-generated content without critical human review.
  • Using AI to produce unverifiable scientific results.
  • Failing to disclose its use.

 

Editorial Verification 

The journal may request clarifications or additional materials to verify the proper use of AI. Failure to comply with this policy may result in rejection, retraction, or actions in accordance with publication ethics standards.    

 

Model Statement (mandatory when applicable) 

“The authors declare that they have used [name of the AI tool] solely as support for [describe use]. All content was reviewed and validated by the authors, who assume full responsibility for the manuscript.” 

 This policy follows international recommendations on publication ethics and may be updated as regulations regarding AI evolve.
